Managing Expectations!

A few more thoughts today as I get this blog back up and running….

Writing a cookbook seems like it should be super fun and super easy, right? Like it’s just a bunch of recipes and dumb little stories. Nothing in the world could be easier! NOTHING!

Well, guess the fuck what! It’s hard! Let’s say you know how to write a recipe (which – ohmygod – is already so hard), you need to have like a concept that’s both unique and also has broad appeal. Listen to the Everything Cookbooks podcast #54 (CLICK HERE!) and you’ll hear the ladies say this over and over. They’re like “ain’t nobody interested in a book about yak-milk-based salad dressings”, but then they’re also like “Another book about how to make pizza? Get fucked!”

And then if you have this perfect unique / broad appeal concept, now you need to be a handsome movie star with 10M Tiktok fans and your mom is Amazon.com and your dad is Oprah. Publishers don’t give two hoots if you’re a damn nobody.

So then, maybe consider self-publishing. Like – OK…. Who has the damn time???

And then I saw this on the internet….

All this to say – maybe I’m the 1%??? Haha! Julia Child published her Mastering The Art of French Cooking when she was 49. I’m 47 now. So – maybe it’s still something…. Probably not.

BUT MAYBE????
